Dance

Orcas move in an imaginary dance. A description of family bonds.
Orcas have a complex social organization, second in complexity of internal and external social connections only to the social structures of elephants and higher primates. It is based on a matriarchal group (family), usually consisting of a female with offspring of different ages and adult sons. Several families, led by relatives (daughters, sisters, or cousins, very rarely brothers), form a pod or group. On average, a pod includes 18 individuals, and its members are strongly bonded to each other. Male resident orcas almost always live their entire lives with their mother. Male transient orcas occasionally leave their maternal pod and join another pod that has solitary females of reproductive age. Despite this, males of both. types of orcas are more attached to their mothers than to their mates. The cult of the mother and her authority among orcas are indisputable. The family is built on loyalty to the mother, not on marriage. Accordingly, mothers fiercely protect their sons out of filial attachment.
