Orca Constellation

Orca migrations. The routes and timing of seasonal orca movements are not well studied.
In most of their range, orcas can be observed year-round; however, in the polar regions of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, they apparently occur only during the summer months. Off the coast of the Chukchi Peninsula, orcas appear in June and leave these waters by November–December. In Hudson Strait, the Fox Basin, and the Davis Strait, they also inhabit these areas only during the summer. In the waters of Antarctica, orcas, like other cetacean species, are found only during the summer months and completely leave the area for the winter.
Only in those ocean regions influenced by powerful warm currents (for example, the Gulf Stream) can orcas remain through the winter even at high latitudes. In Japanese waters, the majority of orcas are caught from April through November inclusive, while from December to April, the catch is minimal. More orcas are caught off the coast of Hokkaido (northern coast - Sea of Okhotsk; southeastern coast - Pacific Ocean), fewer off the northeastern coast of Honshu (38 - 40° N latitude), and even fewer off the southeastern coast of this island (33 - 35° N latitude). In the Sea of Japan, orcas are almost not caught.
